All 505 asks of you today is you go out and vote with your brain. Plus I heard the "I Voted Today" sticker adds 20 horsepowers. I don't care what your political slant, or what candidates or issues you vote on, but it is important to be in the habit of going out and influencing your local, state and federal politics.
Too many younger people think their vote doesn't count, so why go out there and take time to vote? I will tell you why it counts - because if you have too many people thinking the same thing, your vote becomes a thousand, or ten thousand, and those are the numbers that win elections in the ultra partisan political climate we have these days. I will tell you who gets out there and votes, retired people out of touch with the politics that affect us and our future in this country. They don't have anything to do, and have a deeply ingrained propensity to do their civic duty at the polls. You don't want to be told to get offa my lawn? Better start there.
To circle this around to cars, we all know that big business influences the policies being put into place more so than at any time in history. Even more so with the limit and reporting legislation changes that are in play. Want to really do something about the chicken tax and the 25 year old import ban? Your change.org petition isn't going to get it done. It is by getting people in play that will stand up for the rights of the people instead of lining their political coffers with money from corporations that want to keep these archaic policies in effect.
So this may be a lame election, although media wants you to think it is the most important election ever, ever (so they can sell more advertising and get your clicks online), and in actuality any election is, if it is your first time taking your own stand for what you believe in.
I want every single one of my fellow Opponauts out there at the polls today that are legal to vote. But if I get one more person at the polls that wouldn't be there, my job here is done. Please feel free to share this during the day, because I feel this is a very important message for one of the best groups of people out there in the car world.

I fully support this.
Though he'd probably turn this country on its head.

In NC they just make it so hard to vote as a college student. The new Republican general assembly removed all of the on campus polling sites and they're all waaaaaaay off campus now, and most of us don't have a car or any means to get there.

Voting on the way home.

What is this shit? Dirty fucking politics. That makes me mad as hell. You guys of all people should be making sure to get out there and vote. If I was closer I would rent a bus and get you guys some help.

I would also add...research the candidates BEFORE you vote. Don't go in and vote straight Republican or Democrat or Libertarian. Look up who you are voting for, you may be surprised by their platform or things they've said or done. This is a pet peeve of mine, when people don't even know a thing about anyone except the big race names yet still vote for the smaller races just because. If you don't know a thing about the two names you are looking at, please skip that one, uninformed voters are not helpful.

Yeah I know! I'm pretty sure there is a shuttle service but they haven't been advertising it. Gotta prevent those communist college students voting right?

this is true, I guess I implied it with "vote with your brain"
I grew up in a household where my parents voted straight GOP every time. I learned from this. I actually have 2 republicans, 3 democrats on the list, and most of the referendum issues I am mixed on. Comes from being a fiscal conservative, and a social liberal. Or really somewhere in the middle on alot of issues

I would imagine that is the thinking right there. and it makes me furious

Nah bro you got the wrong idea. It's not disenfranchisement, it's just to stop all the rampant North Carolinian on-campus voter fraud. Really, I swear. I mean you're not PRO voter fraud are you? ARE YOU?

I actually feel really bad because this was the first time I would've been able to vote, but I didn't do any research so I wouldn't know who I actually wanted to vote for. Feels bad, man.

I'm not against voter ID per say, it seems to make a lot of sense. but the law in NC was sent through as a blatant method of discrimination, because it restricted early voting, removed poll sites, and was targeted against letting the youth and minorities vote. It's like they knew they didn't stand a chance at reelection any other way!

My polling place doesn't hand out stickers. So lame.
But I did get out there and vote, got there bright and early before work.

oh yeah totally, I would be all for voter ID, it seems like a good idea for people to identify themselves. That is, if it weren't for the stats that just like moving polling places off campuses, it happens to exclude likely democratic voters (poor, young, minority, etc). That just sits bad with me idk.

As a side note, I hate the way our town screws around with polling places for big elections, inevitably making them very difficult and time-consuming to get into for people with things to do. For off-year local elections I'll happily go to the polls, but for the big ones I'm going absentee from now on.

voting against all incumbents. Except my congressional district because the challenger said the sitting representative is bad because he's republican. There's too much of that brand of stupid going around these days.

Blows my mind that some people mind actually find the idea of voting offensive . Seriously, someone in my apartment bitched about a sign in the elevator that asked for people to Vote. It wasn't even politically charged, just saying to go out and vote today.
Voting is like vaccinations. Yeah, it's a bit of a pain, but the system only works if we all participate and if you don't and end up screwed, it's your own damn fault.

It'll be about half a year before I get to vote on anything important; have fun, guys!

Dropped off my ballot (and my partner's) this morning, and then had my traditional post-vote cigar and a nice long drive to Palmer Lake and Monument. Beautiful day.

Did not know the sticker added 20 horsies. Explains why I'm getting so much done today. My wife dropped off our ballots on Monday. We have mail-in/drop-off here, thankfully. 21 offices/races to vote on, 13 individual judges to vote retain/not-retain (yes, we vote on that here), and 10 referenda/initiatives/amendments. 44 different things to decide, unless I miscounted. It can easily take a couple of hours to do all the research and fill out the 3 giant (12"x24" roughly) pages, and this was an easy one, for an even-numbered year.

I was pretty nonplussed by our results, even though I knew they were going to turn out that way.

Texas is a weird state politically, as is Maine. Another 4 years, another pack of idiots, no matter the color. Business as usual.
I wish a 10 party system was viable in this country
